FIVE COSY READS FOR THE LONG, COLD NIGHTS

Posted on November 28 2022

Who wants to be cosied up with a book right now for the night? We do! We’re here to recommend you five books to make you feel cosy when it’s a little dark and gloomy outside.

The Little Hand, Susan Hill

Ghost stories are perfect for the colder months, the spooky gothic atmosphere, and the tension, we love it! The Little Hand is a very atmospheric ghost story by the author of The Woman in Black. This book isn’t scary, but it certainly is cosy. There’s a real appreciation for the seasons in this book and it’s super short too, combining these two makes it the perfect read for a cold, dark evening.

Amari and the Night Brothers, B. B. Alston

This is a very cosy and welcoming middle grade following a young girl who learns she is part of a supernatural world. The best thing about middle grade is the vastness of imagination and the unlimited possibility. This book is perfect for this, it expands into such a brilliant fantasy world and is the perfect book the immerse yourself in, of an evening.

Starve Acre, Andrew Michael Hurley

Another gothic horror with Starve Acre, this book follows two people dealing with grief in very different ways. Taking place in a bleak countryside setting, this book has the perfect dark and gloomy atmosphere to make you feel very happy to be tucked up safely inside. This book certainly has some very strange moments, but it’s well worth a read if you’re looking for something dark and reflective for the cosy months.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Laini Taylor

How can you resist the stunning Prague setting of these books? It’s so cosy and gives us serious wanderlust. On top of that, this book series has such a cool fantasy system and feels almost dreamlike at times. It’s the perfect fantasy trilogy to become absorbed into and enjoy on these longer nights.

The Little Book of Hygge, Meik Wiking

This book is so chilled and calming it’s hard not to feel cosy and peaceful whilst reading it. It’s the perfect book to be able to dip in and out of whenever you fancy, or to read the whole thing in one sitting. It feels like self-care in a book and we couldn’t think of a more perfect final recommendation for a cosy read to enjoy on a long, cold night.

We’d love to know which books make you feel cosy and warm in the comments below!
