10 new fantasy books we can’t wait to read this year.

If you haven’t heard the news… we’re opening our very own FANTASY EXCLUSIVE bookshop! So, as you may be able to guess, we’re big fantasy fans. 2025 has some awesome fantasy books coming our way, so here are ten of the ones we’re most excited about!
Book five in The Bone Season series, this is going to be EPIC! Our team member Beth has already read this one and she’d like to report it was a five-star read and everyone needs to go read this series so they can read this book. It’s the perfect blend of epic clairvoyant fantasy, brilliant characters with great depth and a lot of travel!
There is currently a very exciting freebie for fans of The Bone Season on our Bookshop Kickstarter! 👀💚
You may know Rachel Gillig’s name from the very popular Shepherd King series, this new book follows a prophetess main character who is sent on an impossible quest to defeat the gods with a knight whose future she cannot see. This sounds brilliantly gothic and atmospheric!
This is a debut romantasy book following a main character who was once a dancer in the King’s court, but after she was framed for murder and spent the last two years in a dungeon she is offered freedom for the cost of becoming a spy for the King. This looks like an epic fantasy of revenge, betrayal and hope!
Two words; lesbian vampires.
A dark academia, magical boarding school set in purgatory…? YES, please! Waterstones says this is for fans of Leigh Bardugo’s Ninth House, Olivie Blake’s The Atlas Siz and Naomi Novik’s A Deadly Education so it sounds perfect! We love a moody, dark setting in our fantasies and this one also features a series of magical trials of which students must partake in. We’d like this book in our hands asap, please.
R. F. Kuang is a mastermind writer so we are very excited for their next book! Katabasis follows two academic rivals who have to travel to hell to save their university advisor, apparently, it’s going to be 2025’s most unexpected love story. We are VERY excited for this one!
Set in the same world as The Priory of the Orange Tree this is a prequel to Samantha Shannon’s epic series! We’re following Yscalin who is in imminent danger as the great wyrm Fyredel is beginning to stir. This is no doubt going to be an epic addition to this story and give us some more info on the history of the Priory story.
Did someone say a cosy fantasy following a witch who is mentoring a troubled student? This sounds super cute, very pink coded and a chaotic fun time!
First off, the cover of this book is so beautiful! This epic dark fantasy follows an alchemist with memory loss who has been brought to a necromancer to see what information may be hidden in her brain about the resistance. This sounds sooooo good with all the perfect autumn reading vibes.
This is the first adult novel by Stephanie Garber, the writer of the magical, nonsensical, and amazing Caraval series. Her new book is set in Hollywood as a student tries to prove that the infamous deaths in Hollywood have actually been committed by the devil. Loving the sound of the movie themes running through this and the Hollywood setting too!
Please throw more of your fantasy book recommendations at us, we want reading inspo but also shelf stocking inspo too 👀
