When it’s cold, rainy and windy outside, we just want to cuddle up with a good book and watch the raindrops trickle down the window. Here are some of our cosiest book recommendations to keep you company on a cold day.

If We Were Villains

M. L. Rio

This book gives me life. It’s a dark academia mystery following seven young actors studying Shakespeare at an Arts College.

One of these friends, we find out at the start of the book, has served ten years in jail for a murder he might not have committed - queue an amazingly atmospheric book of the story of that murder and what really happened.

This book is top tier, loved it, loved it, loved it! The academic atmosphere makes it feel super cosy whilst also being super gripping and impossible to put down.

A Darker Shade of Magic

V. E. Schwab

A classic in the Bookstagram world - the magic system in this book is brilliant!

We follow Kell, one of the last Antari magicians, as he navigates between parallel Londons - red, grey, white and once upon a time, black.

The streets are slick, and so is Schwab's prosaic writing. This is a trilogy that will stick with you long after you've read it!

Even better is that there is a graphic novel prequel, and book one of a follow up trilogy has recently released!

Divine Rivals

Rebecca Ross

This historical, fantasy romance is perfect for a cosy reading day - it’s a duology, it’s addictive, it has a really intriguing fantasy system and it has some really loveable characters.

Divine Rivals follows two rival war correspondent journalists who are connected through two magic typewriters during a war of gods.

Trust us, it’s great fun and has a really good romance that you’ll definitely be rooting for.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone

Laini Taylor

A reimagining of the age old angel vs devil, split between a magical world and Prague.

A fair warning - if you have never been to Prague, it will be top of your list after reading this series!

It's hard to say too much about this book without spilling some of its (many) secrets, but believe us when we say you will be hooked from the first chapter!

This trilogy is great on it's own, but has a beautiful wintery illustrated spin-off called Night of Cake and Puppets, as well as a linked duology starting with Strange the Dreamer.

The Burnout

Sophie Kinsella

If you’re feeling a little burnt out, or you just want to read a good, wholesome story, this is for you.

Following Sasha who has hit a wall and goes to her childhood holiday spot for a break (during winter so it’s the perfect setting for this time of year), this book is a romance and also a book about discovering what your body and brain needs.

This ended up being really uplifting and a total feel good bible for getting the life you want!

We love a contemporary romance with a cosy setting in the middle of some rainy days!
